What This Directory Does
GuruWalk carries most of the walks in this roster; freetour.com carries the rest, and every walk page names which. Each of the 45 has its own page giving the guide or operator, the meeting point, the district, the language and the duration. The rest of the site works the same way: a museum free day appears only when the operator's own page states it, and a street, square or park is called free only when walking it costs nothing.
What The Roster Contains
No walk page here prints a route, because no walk's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com states its stops. A walk is introduced instead by its platform, its guide or operator, its meeting point, its district, its language and its duration. The places get the same restraint: where a fact has not been stated, the page leaves it out.
What Walk Pages Print, What They Leave Out
Free, pay what you want is the price of every walk in the roster, and it is the only price printed anywhere on this site. No page sets a money figure, a from price or a suggested tip against a walk. A visitor reserves a free spot on GuruWalk or freetour.com, walks, and tips the guide whatever the walk felt worth. Anything else about a departure sits on the walk's own page on its platform, where the reservation is made.
Free To Reserve, Tipping Is Your Call
Free, pay what you want is the price of every walk here, so no money figure, deposit or suggested tip appears beside any of them. Reserving a place happens on the walk's own page on GuruWalk, or on freetour.com for the walks listed there. At the end, each visitor pays the guide whatever the walk was worth to them. Durations, review counts and scores are carried over exactly as those pages print them.
Where Each Figure Originates
The two platforms do not share a scale. A GuruWalk walk is graded out of 5; a freetour.com walk is graded out of 10. Each rating printed here keeps the scale and review count its own platform shows, with no conversion in either direction.
How Scores Are Shown
Free Essential Budapest Tour, run by Top Budapest Tours, is rated 4.73 out of 5 across 7,652 GuruWalk reviews and meets at Madách Imre Square in the Jewish Quarter.
Every Score Stays On Its Own Scale
- A GuruWalk score is out of 5, a freetour.com score is out of 10, and no rating is ever shifted from one scale to the other.
- Budapesttours.es runs the Free General Tour of the Historic Center, rated 4.82 out of 5 across 6,356 GuruWalk reviews, offered in English and Spanish, meeting at Madách Imre Square.
- Jewish Quarter & Synagogues with personal stories, run by Brigitta, holds 4.91 out of 5 across 196 GuruWalk reviews and starts at the Budapest Eye in the Jewish Quarter.
- Free Tour Buda: Medieval City and Castle, run by Donfreetour, carries 4.76 out of 5 on GuruWalk from 2,514 reviews and lasts 2 hours 15 minutes.
- Interworld Tours runs Buda Castle Free Tour with Fisherman's Bastion, which holds 4.73 out of 5 across 445 GuruWalk reviews and meets at Széll Kálmán Square.
- On GuruWalk, Robert & István run Best of Budapest Free Walking Tour, which holds 5 out of 5 across 8,893 reviews.
- Tourist Angel runs a city centre walk listed on freetour.com, and its 9.8 out of 10 across 160 reviews stays on that ten-point scale, never restated as a figure out of 5.
- The two platforms grade differently, so the two scales stay apart. GuruWalk works out of 5; freetour.com works out of 10. Robert & István's Best of Budapest Free Walking Tour shows 5 out of 5 across 8893 GuruWalk reviews, while Daniel Kalman's walk shows 9.5 out of 10 across 16 reviews on freetour.com. Neither figure gets averaged, rounded or remapped onto the other scale anywhere on this site. A score is reproduced exactly as its own platform records it.
This site sells nothing and runs no tours of its own. Every walk in the roster belongs to an independent local guide, costs nothing and works on a pay-what-you-want basis, with reservations made on GuruWalk or, for the walks listed there, on freetour.com.
Each Score Stays On Its Own Scale
- GuruWalk scores its walks out of 5, freetour.com scores its walks out of 10. Any rating printed on this site carries its scale in the same line, and no figure is ever reshaped onto the other platform's scale.
- A rating never appears here without its scale attached. GuruWalk walks are scored out of 5, so the Free Essential Budapest Tour by Top Budapest Tours reads 4.73 out of 5 across 7,652 reviews. freetour.com walks are scored out of 10, and those figures are never converted to the other scale.
- Every walk names its starting point in advance: Deák Ferenc Square in the Inner City, Matthias Church in the Castle District, the Hungarian State Opera on Andrássy. The freetour.com walks meet at spots such as Váci Street and Erzsébet Square.
- Nothing is reserved through these pages. Choosing a walk sends a reader to its own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com, where the free place is booked and the tip is later settled with the guide, at whatever amount the visitor decides. This site keeps no calendar, processes no payment and guides nobody. Its part ends the moment a reader reaches the guide's own page on GuruWalk or freetour.com.
Where Reservations Are Made
Free claims on this site are kept narrow on purpose. Take the Parliament: the exterior and Kossuth Square cost nothing to walk, yet the interior is a paid guided visit for everyone, EU citizens included. Fisherman's Bastion splits the same way, with its lower terraces free while the upper terraces and turrets carry tickets in the listed paid periods. Where a fact could not be settled, it is left out rather than guessed at.
The Site's Single Income
Income here comes from one source only: referral links to GuruWalk and freetour.com, which pay this site a fee when someone reserves a walk through them. Nothing else is sold. The walks stay free, pay what you want, since a place costs nothing to reserve and the tip is agreed directly between visitor and guide. The affiliate disclosure names both platforms and states that no tour here is run by this site.
What Stays Off This Site
The homepage makes a natural first stop. It gathers the genuinely free side of Budapest: pay-what-you-want walking tours, museums and monuments on their free-entry days, viewpoints that cost nothing, and parks and streets open to anyone on foot.
Page Map
- One section covers the walking tours, all 45 of them, spread across GuruWalk and freetour.com. Each entry prints its meeting point, its languages, how long it runs and its rating, always on the scale the platform itself uses.
- Attraction pages keep two things apart: what is genuinely free and what is free only under a condition. The condition always sits right beside the word free, so nothing is left for the reader to work out alone.
- Each walk also gets a page of its own, listing the guide or operator, the starting point, the district, the languages offered and the rating with its scale spelled out.
- None of these tours is run by this site. Each belongs to an independent local guide and is listed on GuruWalk, or on freetour.com for that platform's seven walks. The affiliate disclosure names both platforms as where the referral links come from.
- If something on a page is wrong, or you have a question, the site's contact email address is the place for it. That address and the affiliate disclosure are all that is said about how the site operates.
